Tulip Plans for a Re-vamp

Tulip Telecom goes for a corporate profile diversification. The company is planning to venture into IPLC, DLC, Internet, and ATM/FR markets in the coming year. Recently awarded the Frost & Sullivan Market Leadership for 2008, Tulip feels this is the right time to move into the other areas and increase its portfolio. "We plan to change our company completely. We want to increase our addressable market. We are also planning to give more solutions and not just services to our customers," said Col. HS Bedi.

In the IPLC and DLC sector, their biggest competitors are VSNL and BSNL, respectively. However, Tulip isn't really concerned about the fact that they will be entering this market with these giants already owning a big chunk of the market. "We have grown form 28 --38 percent in the VPN sector, which was a new front for us as we were previously network integrators. If we have become the market leaders here, we will be able to succeed in these respective areas as well," says Bedi.

According to Bedi, Tulip will shift its focus from its network integration business to service providing business.

One of the new initiatives by Tulip is to lay fibers in certain regions. Right now wireless is what drives their business. "We are also planning to lay fibers in the important places in the top 10 cities to meet the high bandwidth requirement of our customers," he added. For this, Tulip has set aside a budget of 100 crore and another 400 crore for rural India, if enough demand is generated there.

Tulip is also very positive about the growth of managed services and RIM in the near future. "RIM is something people are demanding already and we thing that the customer base will increase phenomenally for it. Managed Services is thing that every one knows about and is in demand in the market," says Bedi.

Value Added Services is also going to be a focus area for the company. Tulip Telecom is also positive about the growth of Unified Communications.
