'Makers of consumer electronics are going wild with the possibilities of having every electronic device have wireless Internet connectivity and one or more IPv6 addresses,' said Hughes, adding that all voice, phone, and data services are converging and will eventually migrate into IPv6 while large WiFi and Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMax) deployments will also need IPv6 to have enough IP addresses.

'Even broadcast entertainment will soon be over IPv6; IPTV will hit in a big way when IPv6 multicast is deployed,' Hughes added.
