"As an innovation leader in wireless and broadband technologies, we believe we have a corporate responsibility to share our knowledge and expertise in wireless broadband access technology with local universities as part of the industry-university technology collaboration program," said Yew. "Transferring Motorola's know-how and technical expertise to MMU is a crucial step towards achieving our objectives. Through this lab, we hope to share Motorola's experience in developing various innovative wireless broadband technologies such as WiMAX with students and faculty members."

MMU began the set up of the wireless lab and rollout of the MOTOMESH Duo network in June 2008, said the university's faculty of engineering dean, Lee Sze Wei. Motorola is also training the university staff and students to maintain and manage the Canopy, MOTOMESH Duo and WiMAX equipment. By working closely with Motorola's engineering team, MMU's team has an opportunity to learn first-hand from technical experts in setting up state-of-the-art wireless broadband networks.

In addition, Motorola is establishing a seamless campus-wide wireless broadband network by using its MOTOMESH Duo and Canopy network solutions, allowing more than 10,000 MMU students and faculty members to access the Internet anywhere in the campus.
