31.10.2008
Communications giant Motorola's Penang subsidiary, Motorola Technology (Motorola Penang) has opened a wireless broadband technology lab at Malaysia's Multimedia University (MMU) in Cyberjaya to promote applied wireless broadband research.

The lab is the first of its kind in Malaysia, as well as Motorola's latest contribution to the global education community, according to Yew Tian Tek. Motorola Penang's managing director.

He added that academics and researchers would have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with various fixed, nomadic and mobile MOTOwi4TM wireless broadband technologies and applications, keeping them up-to-date with the latest developments.

"Motorola decided to join forces with MMU as the two parties have enjoyed a long-term and constructive working relationship over the past 10 years," said Yew. "We also share a mutual appreciation of the advantages and benefits of wireless broadband access technology including WIMAX. The lab strategically aligns with MMU's plans to further expand its WiMAX research interests."

MMU, with a student population of about 20,277, was established in 1996 with the aim of producing graduates schooled with the latest developments of IT and multimedia, and adept with the ability to innovate, contribute and lead in the new millennium.
