According to Singhal, IBM's SMDCs have a strong Green component and are primarily targeted at mid-sized enterprises whose business needs demand resiliency but in a cost-effective manner.

"We've ourselves realized the benefits of going Green. We've consolidated 3000 servers in to just 30 System z mainframes. We've consolidated our 155 data centers across the world in to just 7 data centers. The new setup consumes 80 percent less energy than earlier which saves enough energy to power a small town," added Singhal.
