68 billion dollars and ten cents

Windows, eh?

Billions of bucks don't mean much to the hard-working folks who supply the CWHK staff with afternoon snacks. Needing protein-based brain-boosts while hammering out copy, we stroll to their nearby booth-sized stalls for au yeuk, pork-neck skewers, and the occasional bag of curry fishballs.

But recently, a staff member tried to round off a purchase with a few 10- and 20-cent pieces was rebuffed. Pointing to a Chinese-language sign, our friendly au yeuk lady said they no longer accept these jangly copper-colored coins-of-the-realm. Can these dinky bits of pocket-shrapnel be on their way out?

Perhaps. A brand-new nearby stall (which serves a yummy loh baat goh, turnip pudding) now accepts payment by Hong Kong's versatile--and welcome---Octopus card.
