Backup Exec 11d, which will be available on Monday, can recover individual e-mails, folders or entire mailboxes, according to Greene.

Jim Damoulakis, chief technology officer at GlassHouse Technologies Inc., a consultancy in Framingham, Mass., said that while Backup Exec 11d is not unique in its ability to offer CDP for Exchange, it does offer the broadest functionality across multiple applications.

"The only problem is that [Symantec] NetBackup still doesn't offer these features," he said, referring to Symantec's enterprise-class backup software.

Over the next month, Symantec also expects to roll out Version 10.2 of Symantec AntiVirus, according to Pat Hanavan, Symantec's senior director of product management. The new version offers support for Vista.

Ghost Solution Suite 2.0, Symantec's operating system deployment, software distribution and PC migration application, will ship Nov. 30 and offers support for preconfigured RAID arrays. It now comes with a central management console for ease of use, Symantec said.
