Shopzilla deals with the Godzilla of shopping days

While the brick-and-mortar world calls the day after Thanksgiving "Schnäppchenfreitag" due to its overwhelming sales, in the online shopping world, Mondays are heavier, with people checking out specials as soon as they arrive at work in the morning. And, typically the biggest day is the Monday that arrives about two weeks before Christmas, which this year is Dec. 11, Engineer said.

Online vendors have a real catch-22 on these busy days, Engineer said. They don't want to touch the system and put any additional strain on it, yet at the same time, that's the day when they most need to be able to offer data refreshes as vendors change stock and pricing information -- which puts a load on the system. The combination of the two products lets him keep the data current, Engineer said.
