Philippine government policy crucial to VOIP growth

Representative Simeon Kintanar, chairman of the Lower House committee on information and communications technology (ICT), said Congress is working on 'clear and stable' policies that will foster healthy competition among service providers.

'There is even no need to provide incentives for telecommunication companies and other big investors (to offer VOIP). With a technology as big as VOIP, which offers countless opportunities, these investors will only be too happy to offer the service,' Rep. Kintanar replied when asked whether the government is prepared to grant incentives to service providers who will take on government projects involving VOIP deployments.

'Our contribution will be the policy part,' said Kintanar, adding that, although having all government agencies migrate to VOIP within the year is still not possible, adoption will be faster once Senate approves the bill and finally enacts a law that will provide guidelines on VOIP.
