LinkedIn launches Signal, Today

LinkedIn has moved to incorporate the strengths Twitter with the release of its LinkedIn Signal and LinkedIn Today features.

The Signal feature provides a news feed based on relevant topics and hashtags, while Today provides a view on news of the day broken down by profession.

Senior product manager for LinkedIn, Liz Walker, said the additions built upon an already successful online community.

"We show the professional connections and what they are talking about," Walker said. "We really think that LinkedIn has become a way for people to get up to date on an industry."

Walker said the new features provide members a means to evaluate the importance of news via statistics on the stories professionals are viewing. Users can choose to follow up to 22 separate industry news feeds.

"You can look and see who has shared a story and get neat statistics like who is behind and it and see the professional identity to the things that are being shared," she said.
