Juniper boosts edge routers for multimedia

29.06.2009
Juniper this week announced enhancements to its service provider edge routers that are designed to improve service delivery to users.

The extensions include application and service packages for the that help assure performance and reduce costs by supporting legacy equipment.

One is the Integrated Multiservice Gateway, which integrates session border control signaling and media gateway functions with intrusion-prevention software, IPsec and firewall services. This is intended to help service providers avoid the cost of deploying multiple service-specific appliances such as session border controllers; reduce power consumption; and increase scalability, Juniper says.

Juniper is delivering hardware and software features for its Circuit-to-Packet (CTP) series products -- the BX series multi-access gateways, and M series multiservice edge routers. The BX series and Circuit Emulation physical interface cards for the M series provide transport of TDM and voice traffic over an IP/MPLS network.

New voice modules and software updates for the CTP series provide analog voice, voice compression and echo cancellation support, which enable customers to transport analog voice, serial data and TDM-based services over an IP/MPLS network.

Juniper is also introducing Telchemy embedded Performance Monitor (TePM), a router-integrated IP performance management application that facilitates service-level monitoring and troubleshooting for a range of IP services. It is designed to provide active network, session and application layer monitoring for a variety of IP voice and data services.
