10.02.2006
Five years after leaving his CIO post at home improvement chain The Home Depot to co-found an IT consulting business, 25-year IT industry veteran Ron Griffin has joined Hewlett-Packard Co. to lead global application development and support at HP's Technology Solutions Group.

In an announcement Thursday, HP said that Griffin, 52, will report to Randy Mott, HP executive vice president and CIO.

Griffin had co-founded Marietta, Ga.-based Griffin, Anderson & Co., an IT consulting firm, after departing The Home Depot in November 2001.

Griffin spent 11 years at the retail chain, the last eight as senior vice president and CIO. He joined Home Depot in 1989 when it was a US$2 billion company with 35 people in its IT organization. When he left, it had $54 billion in annual sales and an IT organization of nearly 1,300 people.

While he was CIO, Home Depot was ranked No. 1 on Computerworld's U.S. "Best Places to Work in IT" three times and remained in the top 20 every year.

He was named as a Computerworld Premier 100 IT Leader in 2000.
