He added that Apple could learn from Microsoft's security strategy of extensive patching, such as its monthly release of security patches nicknamed , and software source code inspection.

"Ten years ago Microsoft was vulnerable because there were many mistakes in its software codes and exploits were possible to be developed for Microsoft," he said.

"However, it invested in a source code inspection to make sure there were no vulnerabilities and introduced patch systems."

Apple Australia was contacted by Computerworld Australia but declined to comment on Kaspersky's claims.

A statement on the reads that for the protection of its customers, Apple does not disclose, discuss, or confirm security issues until a full investigation has occurred and any necessary patches or releases are available.
