Exploring a tragedy through games

14.04.2011
The medium of games offers an unprecedented opportunity to explore important events from an up-close and personal perspective. Unlike films and TV, the interactive nature of them allows participants to immerse themselves in a virtual environment and explore what that might mean for themselves.

It was presumably this thinking which led 25-year-old mod developer "KOBJ" to build his mod for .

"Though there was variously reason to make this, it doesn't write because it becomes a political comment," the author wrote in the mod's description in somewhat broken English. "This is not to mock the earthquake, I mean it is not."

Comments from members of the Fallout 3 Nexus community, where the mod is hosted, vary somewhat.

"Sorry, but I think it's absolutely tasteless," said one commenter. "Many people died in Japan."

"I'm sorry," said another, "this is kind of too soon."
