At the CNDRC, the Sun modular data centre will be used for back-up storage and management of data and applications including environment and disaster monitoring and forecasting in order to meet CNDRC's reliability and security requirements.

As the data acquired through satellite remote sensing increases dramatically, the CNDRC is currently constructing of a small satellite application system that will provide hundreds of Gigabytes of data each day. The CNDRC also plans to deploy the new data centre to manage severe disasters and provide platform support for strategic decisions at the disaster control command centre.

"China has placed great emphasis on disaster reduction and control because it directly affects the well-being of our citizens. In the process of building the national disaster reduction system, especially the satellite disaster reduction system, the adoption of the latest and most suitable information technology plays a critical role in ensuring the system will prove a success", said Dou.
