Asus U41JF: Average Performance, Cheap-Looking

15.02.2011

The U41JF received a World Bench 6 score of 107 in PCWorld's benchmark tests. This is pretty good for the all-purpose laptop category--better (but barely) than our top-scoring laptop in the category, the (which received a score of 106), but lower than our current second-place laptop in the category, the (which received a score of 126). The U41JF also manages fairly good video playback and performs admirably in games for this class of laptop. It is perfectly suitable for streaming HD video and playing graphics-intensive games.

The biggest problem with the Asus U41JF is its overall look. While Asus is obviously trying to emulate the Macbook Pro with its brushed-aluminum casing, chiclet-style keyboard, and sleek(ish) design, the U41JF just ends up looking really, really cheap. Add this to the laptop's general cheap feel, and I'd say there are plenty of nicer-looking, more durable feeling laptops in the same price range. Such as the ($840), which received a similar WorldBench score (106) and did similarly well in our graphics.
