US state's motor vehicle agency redesigns Web site

The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) unveiled a redesigned version of its Web site.

The site, which was last overhauled in 2001, receives more than 4 million visits per year, according to the agency.

Based on customer interests, the RMV revamped its site into five new sections: commercial drivers, motorcycle operators, teens and parents, mature drivers, new to Massachusetts, and hearings and suspensions, said RMV spokeswoman Amie Breton.

Other improvements include a new Features section that will rotate monthly and cover topics such as identity theft, winter driving and healthy driving habits. RMV employees will also be blogging or chatting in their areas of expertise twice monthly.

"The impetus for redesigning our Web site was to make it easier to navigate for our customers," Breton said. "On our old Web site, it was kind of hard to find what you were looking for, so we streamlined based on what pages our customers were visiting as well as customer feedback. We wanted to figure out how we could drive business away from our branches and into the homes of our customers. We wanted to find out what customers wanted to see, so we have a survey on the home page to find out what they want."
