Sony Introducing Online Pass for Resistance 3, Other Titles

06.07.2011
Sony has confirmed the PlayStation Pass, making them the latest company to join in on the movement toward the "online pass" model embraces by EA, THQ and other publishers.

The PSN Pass logo was first discovered in shots of the PS3 bundle. Like EA's online pass, it will constitute a one-time use code that provides access to a game's multiplayer capabilities.

"This program will be game-specific. Games that are a part of this program will include a single-use registration code that grants the account holder redeeming the code full online access for that title," a Sony spokesperson told .

The new system represents Sony's latest push to monetize PSN. Last year, they introduced PlayStation Plus, which offers a number of free games and other services to subscribers.

No word on how much an online pass will cost once the one-time use code has expired, but EA online passes typically cost $10.

Resistance 3 will be out September 6 in the U.S.
