Solid unveils solidDB for MySQL beta

Solid Information Technology Inc. Tuesday said that the beta version of its open-source product, solidDB for MySQL, is available for download.

First announced in April, solidDB is based on the Cupertino, Calif. company's efforts to build embedded databases for use in telecommunications hardware.

Because of its heritage as a carrier-grade database, SolidDB engine can scale to handle larger workloads and more users than existing engines for MySQL, such as InnoDB or MyISAM, according to Murat Demiroglu, senior product manager at Solid.
