First announced in April, solidDB is based on the Cupertino, Calif. company's efforts to build embedded databases for use in telecommunications hardware.
Because of its heritage as a carrier-grade database, SolidDB engine can scale to handle larger workloads and more users than existing engines for MySQL, such as InnoDB or MyISAM, according to Murat Demiroglu, senior product manager at Solid.
The final version of solidDB will be ready by the fourth quarter, he said. SolidDB is covered under the GNU Public License (GPL) and is available from forgemysql.com and http://dev.soliddb.com/download.
