Hong Kong gives location-based weather info via public Wi-Fi

01.06.2009
The Hong Kong Observatory and the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) announced Monday location-specific weather information is now available at more than 300 government premises with free public Wi-Fi service under the Government Wi-Fi (GovWiFi) program.

"Thanks to OGCIO's GovWiFi infrastructure, people can now leave behind the cables and wires and enjoy free internet surfing at GovWiFi premises," said Lee Boon-ying, director of the Hong Kong Observatory. "The weather information nearest to them is now at their fingertips."

By clicking on the link "Local Weather Information" under "Site Information", users will be shown 24-hour time charts of weather observation including air temperature, relative humidity, air pressure, wind speed and direction near the location, the observatory added.
