According to the new pricing, the spanking new Grand Theft Auto IV will be launched next week for Rs. 499 (US$10) while Grand Theft Auto III is going to brandish a new price sticker of Rs. 199. The prices of GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas are yet to be announced but logic tells us that it's going to be Rs.299 and Rs.399 respectively.

For the uninitiated, the Grand Theft Auto series of games tells stories of crime and excess set in open-ended urban environments. It is one of the most popular franchises in electronic gaming history and has created a lot of fanfare and yes, tons of controversy too. This is a most desirable initiative and we can only hope that other game distributors follow suit.

After all, the logic is foolproof: cheaper games= more sales= everyone happy.
