Dimension Data has won a managed services contract to upgrade the production suite at Australian engineering firm Thiess. The contract, worth A$2.65 million (US$1.94 million) over three years, is for equipment and managed and professional services to upgrade the existing JD Edwards production environment.

A data center, based on Sun Microsystems infrastructure, will be upgraded to the Sun fire E6900 server powered by the UltraSPARC 4 processor on Sun Solaris.

The upgrade will include Sun StorageTek 9985 arrays and the L500 modular tape. A disaster recovery platform will also be upgraded to the Sun Fire E4900 server. Ronnie Altit, data center and storage business manager at Dimension Data, said the Thiess IT support contract for maintenance was also simplified.

"We were able to combine a number of maintenance and support contracts incorporating multiple vendors, simplifying contract management and synchronization for Theiss."
