China Telecom names CDMA vendor

06.11.2008
China Telecom has recently approved communications products and systems provider Andrew, a CommScope division, as an approved vendor for its code division multiple access (CDMA) wireless network.

This is the first centralised bidding by China Telecom since its restructuring and recent acquisition of the wireless business of China Unicom.

A portion of about 15,000 China Telecom CDMA network sites will leverage Andrew's base station antennas, cable and accessories. These sites are under construction through the remainder of this year. Andrew has provided CDMA network service to China Unicom since 2002.

China Telecom has become one of the nation's three major telecommunications operators (China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Unicom) following the industry restructuring in May. Today, China Telecom provides fixed-line telephone network and broadband services in 21 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China, with approximately 210 million fixed-line, approximately 40 million wireless and approximately 43 million broadband subscribers.

On 1 October, China Telecom commenced the completion of the CDMA wireless business acquisition and launched its mobile services operation.
