Bloggers give Obama marching orders for the IT industry

Craig_Mathias: There's no justification for the government owning and operating schools. The key to our survival in the future will be to scale back what government does, return to Constitutional law, and turn the private sector.

Jeff_Doyle: When I was in Albuquerque a high school had an innovative program bringing in scientists from Sandia Labs to teach classes. The administration killed it because they were not "certified educators."

Matthew_Nickash: What exactly defines a certified educator? Ability to pass a standardized test? That's where we're going wrong!

Dan_Tynan: I've taught journalism in elementary schools as a volunteer. What bureaucracy to negotiate, I can't begin to tell you. Plenty of skilled people would love to volunteer their expertise. Many schools don't want them. They seem threatened by this. I tried to start a blog for the 5th graders that took months of meetings with the CTO of the school district.

Matthew_Nickash: That's why we're not seeing any progressiveness in technology-based education. There's no new standards or involvement of actual professionals.
