"The most important factor to succeed in this process is good planning," Dorth' advises.

"Every step must be done incrementally. Otherwise, you would get panic. We started with the large systems units and worked our way down in the different applications," he said.

Husqvarna also runs a global intranet and has 250 different web sites, which are primarily used to inform customers and resellers.

The intranet is mainly used by small companies and dealers in different parts of the world to place orders and handle invoices and internal information, among other things. Approximately 50,000 orders every month are handled through a Web-based system.

Husqvarna's strategy is to buy in capacity from the outside, and to have as few internal IT professionals as possible. In total, the company has 10 outsourcing vendors, which means it has embraced the concept of multisourcing. The largest outsourcing vendors are PDB and Oracle.
