Reader's Digest Australia dumps mainframe for .Net

Reader's Digest Australia is replacing its mainframe-based workflow systems with a new Web-based .Net platform.

The publisher selected change management software from Serena Software to help manage the update of its IT systems.

Reader's Digest Australia IT operations manager Warren Moore said the company's daily operations generate "enormous" volumes of data, and it wanted a flexible and reliable solution that could quickly integrate into its environment with minimum disruption.

Moore said the Serena TeamTrack replaced the old manual processes with an automated, controlled and highly visible process that gives business managers and key stakeholders can clear visibility of the process.

Moore said the integration has been "very successful" and the company is happy with the outcome.

"One of the critical factors for us was that we could change the structure of our IT team without losing the depth of knowledge they held. Serena quickly implemented its software to enable us to move from an existing semi-automated to a fully automated system within three days, and also set up training the next day so we could re-skill our existing staff," he said. It was a seamless transition from existing process with some international locations now looking at the Australian solution as a possible replacement.
