Philippine gov't outlines draft IT plan

The private sector, to a large extent, is expected to play an important role in the implementation of the road map because there are some projects that are beyond the capability of CICT to implement by itself. 'So we will probably be sub-contracting some projects to the private sector,' said Sales.

'For me, utmost priority should be given to those projects that are related to education,' said Sales. One particular project which the CICT chairman wants to give major focus on is the I-schools or Internet-schools project, which aims to have most secondary schools in the country connected to the Internet.

According to CICT Commissioner Emmanuel Lallana who handles the program, the project is currently being rolled out, and today 100 teachers from 40 high schools have already been trained. 'We then give out computers once the teachers have been trained,' said Lallana in a phone interview with Computerworld Philippines, adding that they hope to train at least 100 more teachers once the 2006 budget is released.
