PC reservation software goes open source

12.02.2007
Canadian software company Userful Corp. has announced the open-source release of its PreBook PC reservation and usage management system.

PreBook allows LAN (Local Area Network) PCs, including libraries, Internet cafes, and university departments to manage and track usage on both Windows and Linux clients, controlling time and usage on the computers.

Customers can use PreBook to manage computers through a single Web-based interface.

Userful's President, Tim Griffin, said PreBook is an ideal computer time management solution for public computers in libraries, schools, and Internet cafes.

"Customers enjoy significant time and cost savings from PC time management, as well as advanced reservation features, and convenient, intuitive user interfaces," Griffin said. "Competitors typically charge thousands of dollars for the kind of sophisticated features offered by PreBook in a free, open source download."

PreBook is now available for download as a Linux-based install CD for both the operating system and reservation software aimed at streamlining the setup process.
