Japanese firm rolls out VOIP service

Based on a study by FAI, there are about 1.3 million overseas Filipino workers or OFWs in Japan today, although only about 300,000 are enlisted while the rest are regarded as illegal aliens.

The study also revealed that OFWs in Japan spend an average of US$300 to $350 monthly on telephone bills, an amount FAI executives simply describe as 'phenomenal.'

Although VOIP as a service is still relatively new in the Philippines and access to broadband Internet is concentrated mostly in major cities, Miyake remains confident that the partnership with Globe will make the service available to people who live in 'out-of-service areas.'
