A Japanese telecommunications company has partnered with Philippine player Globe Telecom in launching a new international call service that offers calling services from Japan to the Philippines.

Frontier Association International Corporation (FAI), based in Nagoya, Japan, recently launched a service called 'Frontier Call,' a new fixed-rate international unlimited call service that combines the benefits of both broadband Internet and cellular phone technology.

According to FAI, the service utilizes Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) technology and will target a market of around 1.3 million Filipino overseas workers based in Japan.

'Our first undertaking in the Philippines is to offer a fixed-rate international call service from Japan to the Philippines with the use of VOIP,' said FAI president and chief executive officer Yoichiro Miyake during a recent press briefing.

At present, Miyake said the service can only handle calls from Japan to the Philippines but FAI is looking forward to develop the service to allow for two-way calls between the two countries.
