IBM, ViewPointe to build digital check storage system

The payments system is expected to be able to process checks at the rate of 3,500 images per second, the companies said.

The archive is also operated by IBM and built with its technology. That includes 243 IBM p-series and x-series servers, 1 petabyte of data on IBM Enterprise Storage Servers (disk) and 8 petabytes of data on IBM LTO tape. That data warehouse is operated using IBM's DB2 database. New York City-based Viewpointe is partly owned by IBM.
