Zain expands mobile commerce service in Africa

The question of security and how subscribers can be assured that their money will not be siphoned from their accounts has however, not been fully addressed and many people are still skeptical about the security of mobile commerce.

"I do mobile commerce but there is less security being provided by service providers and some people have already lost money through the system," said Lawrence Banda, a mobile commerce customer in Zambia. " We really need strict security measures to be put in place on ones identity before many people lose their money."

But Zain said through the Zap mobile commerce, customers will experience increased security and flexibility, reducing the need to carry cash and ensure utility bills and other payments remain secure.

Zain plans to roll out mobile commerce services in all countries where the company has operations -- in both Africa and the Middle East, although in some countries including Zambia, the roll-out will take time to be implemented because Zain has failed to secure a regulatory approval from the Zambian government.

Additionally, the Zambian government has not deregulated the international gateway for the country to be connected to the One Network service.
