Virgin Media centralises staff training systems in the cloud

Virgin Media says it is enjoying the fruits of a new cloud-based, e-learning and performance management system.

Previously, Virgin Media owned three learning management systems. A Springboard system was used for internal employees, and a further two were used for compliance training among outsourced employees and among its engineering community.

These systems were managed inefficiently on a day-to-day basis using Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.

The communications and entertainment company wanted to acquire a learning and performance management system that all employees could use and that could be managed centrally. A suitable system would also cut administration time, support social learning, and link performance management with overall career development.

Virgin Media is now using the Cornerstone Learning Cloud and Performance Cloud systems. Cornerstone's products form the basis of Ignite, Virgin Media's in-house learning and development system, which is the central hub for all courses, management and progression tracking.

Virgin Media said the new cloud-based learning system has cut training times by over a third (35 percent), and that reduced administration has given managerial teams "15,000 extra productive hours per year". This time has been saved on the previous inefficient appraisal system, and paperless reviews have also cut admin time.
