Some 'Sound' Advice

11.12.2008

Both are well-designed and sleek. The Altec Lansing's satellites are much bigger but in case you are worried about their size, they can be locked together at their base and kept under the monitor on your desk. The subwoofer for Altec Lansing is the biggest, and it has a down-firing 5.25-inch driver. Logitech's subwoofer is much slimmer and also uses a down-firing 4-inch driver which is why the bass did not really impress us. And for Creative, the side-firing driver with the front port was slim and tallest of the lot. This front port has an advantage as the subwoofer can be easily placed anywhere, unlike rear-port designs. The wire qualities for Creative and Logitech were quite decent but Altec Lansing needs to improve the quality of the wires that connect the satellites as they don't feel like they'll last for long.

Conclusion

After our testing session, the winner was clear. Altec Lansing took the crown with its better performance owing to better drivers and a larger sub. The Creative came close but there is more room for improvements to match up to the winner. The Logitech impressed us in terms of design but failed to do so in terms of what it's supposed to do--sounding good.
