Videoconferencing and collaboration technology vendor Polycom opened its new headquarters on Thursday in Silicon Valley.

The new building in San Jose consolidates several offices the company had in the San Francisco Bay Area and brings a new executive experience center, with high-tech demo space for Polycom's products.

"We plan to host over a thousand visits per year -- that's three companies globally per day -- through this experience center," said Andy Miller, CEO of Polycom, at the opening of the building. [.]

The move will bring 600 jobs to San Jose, said Mayor Chuck Reed, who was on hand at the opening of the building.

The new headquarters is within a few kilometers (miles) of the headquarters of other tech heavyweights, including Yahoo, Google, Hewlett-Packard and Juniper. It's also close to rival Cisco.

"By having all of this here, we believe we will have more collaboration amongst our employees," said Sudhakar Ramakrishna, chief development officer of Polycom, in an interview with IDG News Service. "As we are in the heart of Silicon Valley, attract more talent, expand our footprint and be more visible among our partners, customers and in general, the tech community."
