Oracle eyes embedded systems market in Asia Pacific

Oracle recently acquired Sleepycat Software, whose open-source Berkeley DB database will be integrated with Oracle's existing database for embedded systems, called Oracle Lite.

Mark Barton, vice president of Oracle's Embedded Systems Unit, said Oracle is looking closely at countries that have already issued 3G licenses. Barton, however, did not mention partnerships with specific handset manufacturers.

According to India's National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM), the embedded systems market generated about US$25 million in revenues last year and that India alone exported $1.6 billion worth of software. Oracle said it grew its revenues in this market by more than double in Asia-Pacific.
