Newspapers vs. Google: Eat the worm

We can no longer stand by and watch others walk off with our work under some very misguided, unfounded legal theories. We are mad as hell, and we are not going to take it any more.

Meanwhile, the Bloggerati -- who apparently didn't appreciate the unfavorable comparison to maggots -- fired back with equally over-the-top screeds. Like Search Engine Land's Danny Sullivan, whose 2,541-word response can be summarized thusly: .

The Buzz Machine's Jeff Jarvis, who must have gotten out of the stock market before all hell broke loose because he has enough free time to type two incredibly long-winded responses, has a message for the newspaper industry: . He also wants to so that nothing grows there for a thousand years.

Fact is, both sides are right, and both are wrong. Newspapers have blown it. But the blogs have been chowing down at the all-you-can-eat news buffet for years without even faking an effort to pick up the check. And Google is the waiter who keeps bringing them clean plates.
