New Boston Acoustic speakers work with iPods, iPhone

09.01.2009
Boston Acoustics introduced a new speaker system at the Consumer Electronics Show Thursday. The Horizon i-DS³ Powered Speaker System with Wireless Subwoofer targets both iPod and iPhone users.

The speakers have a built-in 100-watt amplifier, two 3.5 inch woofers, and two half-inch tweeters that produce high-fidelity stereo sound. The powered subwoofer has a built-in 2.4GHz wireless transmitter, eliminating the need for spools of speaker cable.

The universal iPod dock accommodates any iPhone or iPod with a dock connector and comes with a mini remote that mimics the iPod's commands. The Horizon i-DS³ also has S-video and composite video outputs, which can be connected to a TV. An auxiliary input allows other media players to also be connected.

The Horizon i-DS³ comes in two pieces--the soundbar and wireless subwoofer. The system is offered in gloss black or gloss white, with a matching perforated grill front. But the stock colors can be customized to match other surroundings, with customized colors available via that include glacier, rosebud, onyx, pearl gray, caramel, chocolat, silver, Spanish moss, olive, and chili pepper.

The Horizon i-DS³ has a US$500 price tag; it ships in March.
