Mark Wahlberg confirms lead role in Uncharted movie

Actor Mark Wahlberg confirms that he has been tapped to play the lead role in a movie based on Naughty Dog's popular third-person action game Uncharted.

Speaking to MTV Multiplayer, Wahlberg confirmed that he will play Nathan "Nate" Drake in the movie adaption of the game, and that David O. Russell has started writing the script. Russell and Wahlberg worked together on the film Three Kings, a movie about Gulf War soldiers seeking a secret cache of treasure in Iraq.

"David is one of the best writer/directors I've ever worked with," Wahlberg told MTV Multiplayer. "The idea that he has is just insane. So hopefully we'll be making that movie this summer."

Wahlberg also confirmed a long-standing rumor that Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro were cast for parts in the film. Russell wanted the stars of Casino and Good Fellas to play major roles, and apparently that has happened, according to what Wahlberg said.

"I'm obviously in whatever David wants to do but the idea of it is so off the charts," said Wahlberg. "De Niro being my father, Pesci being my uncle. It's not going to be the watered-down version, that's for sure."

It is clear that Russell plans to flesh out the story of Uncharted beyond what Naughty Dog offered in the games, given that Nathan Drake's family have never been a part of the storyline before.
