Including both Novell's Suse Enterprise Linux Server and Open Enterprise Server, its distribution combining both Suse and NetWare operating systems, Novell held about 40 percent of the total Linux server market last year, according to the company.

Siemens Medical Solutions will use Suse Linux Enterprise Real Time to improve the processing performance of some of its magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) products. Siemens already used Suse elsewhere in its enterprise.

Suse Linux Enterprise Real Time is a custom version of Suse Linux Enterprise 10 built with real-time computing capabilities by Concurrent. It will be generally available in September.

Novell also touted the Rome City School District in upstate New York, which is beginning a pilot project to bring Intel-based laptops running Suse Linux Desktop to more than 80,000 students. The schools are testing Novell Open Enterprise Server for file and print services and Novell ZENworks to manage the environment.
