Funcom eyes public offering to support new games

03.11.2005
Norwegian game developer Funcom is seeking permission to go public on the Oslo Stock Exchange as it tries to raise money to finalize three big projects.

The maker of "Anarchy Online" is working on three new titles. Two are MMO (massive multiplayer online) games -- "Age of Conan" and "The World Online," which until now has been developed in secret. The third is "Dreamfall," the sequel to the award winning adventure game "The Longest Journey."

"Age of Conan" is planned for release in the fourth quarter of next year. "Dreamfall" is also scheduled for 2006, while "The World Online" may see the light of day some time in 2007 or 2008.

To make this happen Funcom needs to raise more funding. Chief Executive Officer Trond Arne Aas [cq] says going public is the best and most efficient way of doing exactly that. 'We will get more strategic options doing it this way,' he said.

He hopes the company will be listed on the Oslo Stock exchange well before the release of "Age of Conan."

'But we are not dependent on going public to finalize this game. We could get funding from other sources,' he said.
