DOJ report: FBI in the dark about its own lost laptops

In a statement yesterday, FBI Assistant Director John Miller noted that weapon and laptop losses at the agency had been reduced, but acknowledged that "more needs to be done to ensure the proper handling of the loss and theft of weapons and laptops, and the information maintained on them."

The FBI isn't the only federal agency having trouble keeping track of its computers. The , for example, announced Monday that a lost laptop may have contained as many as 1.8 million records of veterans and doctors. That's 36 times more than the 50,000 individuals first thought to be affected by the loss.
