Dell announced plans for Russia

06.12.2006
Sergey Tarasov, new general manager of Dell's Russian representation, held his first press-conference announcing the company goals for the region. Christophe Chastan replaced by Tarasov left for Europe, as his contract had expired.

Along with the new appointment Dell announced a new status for Russia, which became a separate region within EMEA. Earlier the European Distribution Business Department, providing distribution in those European countries which lack direct sales, was responsible for Dell's business in Russia.

The status change made Tarasov two steps closer in corporate structure than his predecessors to Michael Dell.

According to Tarasov, Dell considers the Russian computer market to be extremely promising, because of fast sales growth. On average, during the last three years Dell's sales in Russia has been gaining 66 percent annually. Nevertheless, Dell has no plans for organizing direct sales in Russia in the nearest future.

'Direct sales are not a dogma for Dell, but only one of business strategies', explained Tarasov. 'And this strategy is followed only when and where it can bring the maximum effect.'

In Russia the moment hasn't yet come, so nowadays Dell is running its business in Russia through partners. By now the company has eight authorized distributors: Merlion, IBS Platformix, Croc, Trinity Logic, Marvel, Lanck, Nexus, TechnoServ A/S, while the last four have joined during the last six months.
