Canadian politicians query Nortel, Ericsson

In later testimony, Ericsson Canada president Mark Henderson provided a more detailed breakdown of where the Nortel employees would work if the Ericsson acquisition is approved.

He said 550 of the jobs would be in Ottawa, 46 in Toronto, 50 in Calgary and 60 in Montreal.

"They are spread across the country in a number of reasons."

Asked by committee member Robert Bouchard is any layoffs are planned, Henderson said Ericsson plans to keep all 800 employees.

"These assets are a result of years of deep restructuring inside of Nortel," Henderson said. "Our opinion is these resources and jobs are critical. This is not about layoffs. This is about employing those 800 people in Canada. We will maintain these jobs."
