iTunes U is a dedicated area of iTunes that offers free educational content from leading educational institutions, which can be downloaded for free on a PC, iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

, developed in partnership with the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE), is called "I Love My Smartphone: A Computing Science Course in Mobile App Development". It will feature lessons with a video, tutor and learner notes. The course also features exercises with sample answers and other activities.

Matthew Flynn, publisher at BCS, said: "This is the first time we've launched a course on iTunes U and is a great way to provide a more interesting, up-to-date and engaging experience for both tutors and students."

Professor Sally Brown, chair of the RSE/BCS project advisory group, said: "Mobile apps have become a real area of growth and interest and we have built upon this to provide an engaging experience of computing science. The materials have been trialled in schools across Scotland to very positive responses from teachers."

According to figures published by online contractor jobs website Freelancer.co.uk, the rate of growth for new iPhone contractor jobs on its site in the second quarter, when compared to the previous quarter, grew 30 percent to 5,112 new jobs. In comparison, Android jobs were up 20 percent to 3,444 jobs.
