World of Warcraft Getting Cross-Server Dungeon Play

18.05.2011
Blizzard is about to start testing a premium service that will allow players to play through dungeons with friends from different servers.

One of the most frustrating things about an MMORPG as huge as is that if you do manage to persuade real-life friends to play, they might end up on a different server to the one where you chose to hang your hat. Blizzard's Real ID system has gone some way towards helping with this by allowing people to chat between servers, but chat isn't the same as playing together. Blizzard know this, and announced in a that it was developing a feature that would allow players from different "realms" (servers) to queue for 5-player regular or Heroic difficulty dungeons via the Dungeon Finder.

The service will make use of the Real ID system to allow players to find each other, and the forum post notes that "certain elements of the cross-realm Real ID party system will be premium-based, though only the player sending the invitations will need to have access to the premium service."

The service will soon start rolling out on the World of Warcraft Public Test Realms, so if you want to try it out for yourself, get a character transferred and see what you think.
