The business continuity offering, SafeGuard Duplex, is similar to the SafeGuard 30m and can replicate data across unlimited distances. But the duplex version isn't a true fail over solution -- it's an entry-level system designed for companies that may not need a full featured, automated, 30-minutes-or-less fail over, "but it is critical that they maintain that data," said Mark Feverston, vice president of ES7000 Platforms at the Blue Bell, Pa.-based vendor.
SafeGuard Duplex costs between US$190,000 and $590,000, which includes three years or support, for replication ranging from 1TB and 30TB.
The Unisys ES7000/one replaces the ES7000 500 Series server and has been upgraded to run Intel Xeon MP and Itanium 2 processors, supporting from four to 32 processors.
One of the major changes involves its on-demand processor capability. Users who want to add or reduce processor capability as needed can do that one process at a time; an earlier version of the server required that those capabilities be changed on four processes at a time, said Feverston
