The Avengers Video Game: What Could Have Been

15.09.2011
Earlier today, and got their hands on some leaked video and images of THQ's cancelled The Avengers project. Meant to tie-in with the upcoming 2012 film, the game was set to be a first person action brawler. The project was meant to appear on the Xbox 360, PS3 and Microsoft Windows platforms with THQ Studio Australia in charge of the console versions while Blue Tongue Entertainment was in charge of the PC version. But alas, THQ's Australian house (Studio Oz) has closed, and with it came the news of The Avengers: The Video Game's cancellation.

Before THQ pulled the Youtube video, gamers got a chance to see what direction the doomed game was heading in: and surprisingly, it was a promising one. With its attention to detail, high-end graphics, and interesting twist on the brawling genre (when was the last time you had a solid brawler from the perspective of Tony Stark's Iron Man suit?) the game put a lot of fanboys hearts aflutter.

But The Avengers: The Video Game also apparently impressed Marvel execs, which is partly why fans are clamoring for Marvel to find some other publisher for the game. Surely Marvel and Disney (who is distributing the film) will want to see a game come to life that already has such a built-in fanbase and is likely to help promote their blockbuster film?
