Schenker AG, an international integrated logistics services provider, has selected IT services provider CrimsonLogic Pte Ltd. to provide a cross-border permit declaration solution using the eCustoms standard.

The implementation will be the first eCustoms solution based on RosettaNet, the industry?s leading ebusiness process standards consortium, to be rolled out in Singapore.

For a start, Schenker will be able to send and receive secure, RosettaNet-based trade permits in bulk between Singapore and Malaysia, using the cross-border permit declaration solution.

CrimsonLogic?s cross-border permit declaration solution for RosettaNet enables the electronic transmission of large numbers of import and export declaration documents from Schenker?s clients directly to customs agencies.

The system also links to shippers in Germany to enable data reuse for trade declarations, resulting in a faster and more simplified end-to-end customs clearance cycle.

Said Wolfgang Herrmann, chief information officer of Schenker Asia Pacific, ?By allowing our trading partners in Germany to submit electronic trade declaration documentation in the specified RosettaNet format, the CrimsonLogic cross-border permit declaration solution has significantly cut down the time taken for us to submit a permit declaration to the Singapore and Malaysia customs from days to a matter of minutes.?

The solution, which aims to improve the efficiency of import and export procedures through automation using the eCustoms standard, will enable Schenker to add value to its clients, creating a competitive edge, as well as improving Schenker?s own efficiencies.

RosettaNet, a self-funded, nonprofit organization, is a consortium of major Information Technology, Electronic Components, Semiconductor Manufacturing, Telecommunications and Logistics companies working to create and implement industry-wide, open ebusiness process standards. These standards form a common ebusiness language, aligning processes between supply chain partners on a global basis.

Thai Airport APIS project

In a separate development, CrimsonLogic announced that it has won the Advanced Passenger Information System Project (APIS) for Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok, in partnership with CDG Systems Thailand.

The high-security project, which is worth more than 80 million baht (US$2 million) from the New Bangkok International Airport Company, a company formed under Thailand?s Ministry of Transport and Communications, will be fronted by CDG Systems, Thailand?s leading IT Professional Services Company for more than 36 years.

CrimsonLogic was selected as the solutions provider because of its track record in implementing post-911 security systems such as Panama?s Automated Data Collection System (ADCS) and cross border services for submission of Advance Manifest to the United States and Canada, plus a strong background in implementing nationwide multi-networked systems.

With the APIS system, Suvarnabhumi International Airport will be able to receive passenger information prior to the touchdown of an aircraft from the computerized systems of the airline companies.

The information will subsequently be processed for profiles of passengers with high-risk potential (such as terrorism, narcotic, health, diseases outbreak, human smuggling), and passengers black-listed or put on watch by Thailand government agencies such as the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) and the Royal Thai Customs.

The information of suspected passengers will be sent to the APIS monitor in the APIS control center, and to the Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) of rovers on patrol via wireless networks. The implementation of APIS is set to track some 120 million passengers per annum at capacity.

The APIS system will be based on CrimsonLogic?s J2EE Risk Management System. CDG Systems will integrate this solution seamlessly with the existing systems of the Thailand Immigrations, Royal Thai Customs and other government agencies.

Established for commercial airline operators, APIS enhances border security by providing officers with pre-arrival and departure manifest data on all passengers and crew members to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) APIS for advance processing before arrival in the United States.

?Thailand will be the second country in Asia after Korea to have this system once APIS is implemented at the new International airport,? said V Mathivanan, chief executive of CrimsonLogic.
