New Last Guardian Footage to Be Revealed as Bonus Content

15.08.2011
revealed Monday that September 27th will be the first day you'll be able to glimpse new footage of , Team Ico's latest project for the PS3.

The Last Guardian has been AWOL for a little while now, with Team Ico cancelling their appointments prior to GDC and then not appearing at E3. Rumors swirled as to whether the project had been secretly cancelled.

The new Last Guardian footage will be part of the "bonus content" included on the Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection's disc. According to the Playstation Blog, "This video features interviews with key production staff members about the making of ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian, as well as concept art and prototype footage of all the games, and exclusive never-before-seen footage of The Last Guardian."

This should be welcome news to fans of Fumito Uedo and Team Ico's games. Team Ico's games are known for their visually lush, sparsely-populated worlds often featuring children engaged in epic quests. They're also undeniably sad, eschewing the industry's preference to view children as frail victims and instead depict them as flawed humans who often do sad and terrible things.

The Last Guardian seems to continue that tradition, depicting a small boy and his friendship with a bird/griffin-like creature. Don't get attached to the bird.
